From “Just Married” to “Just Moved In”

Fresh off their wedding, newlyweds Baxter & June decided it was time to put down roots and find a place to call their own. Both raised between Woodstock and Mt. Scott, they shared a vision of starting their next chapter—and eventually growing their own family—right in the neighborhoods they’ve always loved. As first-time buyers with a tighter budget and a strong preference for staying close-in, we knew we'd need to get creative. Fortunately, they come from a family of builders, makers, and can-do people who know how to see past dated finishes and dream up what could be. But even with vision on their side, everything we toured just wasn’t quite right—too much of a fixer, weird layouts, or missing the right neighborhood vibe. And any promising contenders quickly turned into bidding wars and flew far over asking.

Just when the process started to feel a little discouraging, a gem of a house popped up—slightly over budget, but nearly perfect. It checked every box and was tucked into a sweet, quiet street lined with blooming gardens, friendly neighbors, and the kind of energy that just feels like home. We acted fast, crafted an airtight offer, and pulled in a bit of lender magic and a family assist to help close the gap. They were the first offer on the table and even took a “just in case” photo out front—equal parts hope and superstition. That little moment turned out to be the good luck charm we needed.

In the end, we beat out six other offers, and Baxter and June are now the proud owners of a charming midcentury home with a beautiful garden, a huge two-car garage ready to become a workshop and creative space, and some of the kindest neighbors in Portland. It took heart, hustle, and an all-hands-on-deck effort—but this home was worth the wait. Their next adventure is just beginning, and it’s already off to a beautiful start.
